Building Department
The main objective of the Building Department is to enforce all building codes, acts and regulations. It is the responsibility of the Building Department to provide the highest level of service to protect public safety and welfare as it relates to construction, reconstruction, alterations, repairs or demolition of buildings. The Department also supports the residents of Dighton and those doing business in Dighton through effective enforcement of the State Building Codes and Dighton Zoning By-Laws.
Inspectional Division
The Division of Inspectional Services enforces the provisions of State Building Codes and Dighton Zoning By-Laws as regards to all phases of construction regarding Building, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Gas as well as Annual Inspections for Schools, Restaurants, Churches, Adult Day Care, Institutional Facilities, Municipal Buildings, Pre-Schools, Day-Care Centers, Liquor Stores, and Barbershops.
Massachusetts State Building Code
The Building/Inspection Department follows the provisions of 780 CMR Massachusetts State Building Code, 9th Edition.
Zoning Enforcement Officer
The Building Commissioner is also the Zoning Enforcement Officer. He is responsible for inspecting existing buildings upon complaints for code and/or zoning violations, enforces building codes and zoning violations found during inspections, issues violation notices, and compiles information needed to ensure compliance if District or Superior Courts need to be involved.
